I feel like I’m doing a full face in my bathroom and then as soon as I go out or under different lighting I look silly. Once, when I was 15, my camp colleagues casually joked that my foundation wasn’t the right shade and I’ve been haunted ever since. I now have matching colors at sephora and I’m better at makeup… but I want to know how to make sure that when I’m putting on makeup the shade / contour / blush doesn’t look silly? Since I’m not sure about my nose, so I like to apply a lot of outlines on it, but I think I might look like a dark brown line on the nose…

Depending on your bathroom, you can try to get “daylight” bulbs! Changing the shade of light can help avoid that. Or if you can do your makeup in front of a window at times to get some practice in to learn what you like it to look like.
As for making sure your face products don’t “look silly” part of it is confidence, part is trying things out, and last is having a good way to compare it. If you like a lot of blush or contour or bronzer, it will only look silly if you “let” it, which I know is an old line people give you, but I am sure you have seen people on the street with bold makeup and thought they looked cool.
Trying things out for shade will help you learn if you like the way it looks on you. There is a lot of info out there on what contour products are warmer, cooler, more red, more orange, more grey, etc, but that only helps if you have an opinion on which of those you like on you. So try some was you figure it out! That is part of the fun of makeup.
And last, comparing in a gentle way. Either by selfies or a good friend, so you have a way to go “does this color/technique flatter me more or less than the other one”. Sometimes you will only trust yourself to make that call, sometimes you will have a great friend who you know gets makeup who can answer that.
And the very last part, everyone has makeup faux pas, it happens. Gotta roll with it!
I bought a lighted desk mirror from Amazon with different tones. It has a few light settings including natural light to better see! I only used it when I was full face every day but it really helped.
Edit: heavy contour however can look unnatural in any normal light – it’s really not meant for day to day wear, so you still may struggle there a little but not as much
I tend to do my make up in my bedroom lighting, and when I’m satisfied, I have a look w a mirror in natural lighting as well and make final touches before I leave the house. I very much doubt you look ridiculous, just go light on the contour and blush and build up until you find the level of intensity you prefer. Good luck babes
