TLDR; looking for advice on how to use the new Huda Luminous Matte Foundation for dry skin. Right now, it dries quickly, cannot be mixed, moves extremely easily with contour mixing, and overall a bad set on the skin. I prefer to use a brush to a sponge for hygienic (and cost) reasons and I’m specifically looking for ways to adjust my preparation or product to be mixed with foundation to make it work. Alright, I’m a die-hard Huda fan, I have pretty much every palette, I’ve used foundation for years, tantour, concealer, brushes, lippies, etc. and pretty much the only thing i haven’t liked so far has been her eyeliner. So I got the new luminous matte foundation, excited because it is supposed to be “ luminous ” and I usually translate it to mean it will be good for dry skin. Plus, more scent. To be honest, the scent of the original formula never bothered me too much and I was in love with the formula. Anyway, I needed a slightly lighter color and had high hopes for this new foundation. I just finished watching and am quite disappointed my skin prep looks like this … Clean, serum, drunk elephant moisturizer, golden krocus elixir korres (gives a nice sticky feeling, helps fill large pores ), primer in tatcha silk canvas. I let each product sit for about a minute before applying the next step to make sure everything is ready. I applied with a brush because that’s usually what I prefer but this stuff started to dry QUICKLY. Even though I was using the Tatcha primer (and most of it), I could immediately feel my skin tightening. So it was immediately difficult to mix, I sprayed a moisturizing primer to try to help and honestly it only made the separation worse. But I get it and I’m like, ok … if I look closely I can see where it didn’t want to stick to my skin and I can see some redness coming in but I’m going to move on and stop playing with because it moves rather than mixes. I put on my tantour and start to blend in and the foundation has basically come with the mixture. Redness fully exposed. I never had this problem with tantour cream, but I can only imagine that the dryness of the foundation played a role. So I reapplied more foundation and then used powder contour, but even that didn’t really want to blend. The proofreader continues and it’s good, I settled down and I’m still unhappy with the overall presentation. I ended up layering on a powder foundation to at least make the foundation, although I could finish the look I was doing, but it certainly wouldn’t have worked out to get away with it. Luckily tonight I was just playing with the new foundation and looking for pictures. Sooooo i really want to make this foundation work i will send it back if needed but i hate doing this and still i love the variety of shades huda gives. I’m going to experiment with different techniques so I’m looking for ideas. I would really like to avoid using a sponge as I usually feel like I can never clean them and it contributes to my rashes. So I prefer brushes because they are easier to clean. I know some people use facial oil before applying foundation? I’ve also seen videos where people seem to add something to the foundation and mix it up before applying it, so I’m wondering a bit about that. It tends to make it seem like they make it “brighter”, but I can never tell what they are using.
