Edit: TLDR After using retinol my base looks much more uneven and textured than normal, how can I correct? I started using retinol two weeks ago and haven’t used makeup much since I got home, but I go to school now so I started playing again. My base has always worked for me: I stayed long enough, it didn’t look too mushy except for a few issues and had a nice glow. To see the texture I had to look closely in a mirror, but now it looks pretty jagged around my nose, pores, and mouth. How to fix? Basic routine + skin care: – Isntree plus hyaluronic acid tonic – Sioris time is running out mist – Iunik centella calming cream gel – Coxir daily uv – Elf matte mastic base – Fenty hydrating foundation (wet brush with elf mist and set) – Fenty match stix as hughlight mat and contour – Elven halo glow setting powder on crease areas – Beauty bakery setting powder on t-zone – Elf mist and set I have normal and oily combination skin.

I personally can’t use retinol, I find even sparingly it makes my skin rough and irritated.
Retinol is pretty harsh and can take a while for your skin to get used to. In general you don’t want to mix Retinol with vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide, or AHA/BHA acids. I think HLA is ok and I noticed your sunscreen contains it. I’d check the ingredients of your skin products and avoid them if they contain any of these.
One thing I changed in my makeup routine when I started retinol was to use a dewy setting spray rather than a matte one. I found it helped calm down the dryness for the first couple of weeks, then my skin got used to the retinol.
Lastly, you really don’t need much retinol. It’s a strong product so you can try cutting back a bit and see if that helps.
Good luck!
I use niacinamide along side retinol, I put it on as soon as the retinol has absorbed and it has really improved my texture
