I don’t have a specific one but I have never gotten a morphs brush that I actually liked. I bought the highlighting one that everyone was like “ITS THE BEST” and it didn’t do anything better than my real techniques setting brush.

⭐ I’ve been doing makeup for years – & I’ve ran into a lot of great brushes! But sometimes, I find some not-so-great brushes that leave me disappointed. Today, I wanted to share my top disappointing makeup brush finds.

REVIEWS:
#1 – Boxycharm 2-PC Exclusive Brush Set
💲 Price: $35.00 (Boxycharm)
▪️Why: there are 2 brushes in this set: a multipurpose powder brush, & a foundation brush. I found BOTH of these brushes extremely awkward to use. The powder brush is too dense to blend out powder, & the foundation brush is just an odd shape. I tried so hard to love this set – but I just don’t.
……
#2 – MAC 125SE
💲 Price: $30 (Mercari)
▪️Why: this is a ‘split fiber dense face brush’, and I thought it would be great for cream contour. Boy, was I wrong. It is FAR too dense that it just blends the contour away into nothingness, & rubs your foundation base away. This brush has since been discontinued.
……
#3 – Wet n Wild Contour Brush
💲 Price: $1.00 (Dollar Tree)
▪️Why: I have nothing against affordable brushes, but I prefer when they work. This one just doesn’t. I’ve tried it with both bronzer & blush application – it has failed in all aspects. It’s too skinny & long to get the product to lay down in a precise manner.
……
#4 – Real Techniques Foundation Brush
💲 Price: $4.80 (Kohl’s)
▪️Why: I don’t even know how this is supposed to work. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve tried it multiple times, & I ended up spending too much time achieving a streaky foundation base. The brush is too oddly shaped for a full-coverage application. I also hate the angle.
……
#5 – Alexis Vogel Blending Brush
💲 Price: $14.95 (eBay)
▪️Why: this brush has given me trouble since I got it. The brush hairs are all cut at different lengths, so they absolutely fray EVERYWHERE. There is no way to actually use this brush & get good results without getting pissed off. No matter what I do, it will never maintain a ‘shape’. This brush has since been discontinued.
……
#6 – Crown Angled Eyeshadow Brush
💲 Price: $1.20 (Boxycharm)
▪️Why: this was part of the exclusive ‘All Eyes on You’ brush set, received through Boxycharm. I loved most of the brushes in the set, but I don’t love this one. I’m very particular about angled brushes, & this brush is cut too circular & unevenly that it makes shadow application very difficult. I also find it to be way too thick, & when I look for angled shadow brushes – I prefer them to be slimmer.
……
#7 – Luxie #221 Flat Definer Brush
💲 Price: $5.60 (Luxie Beauty)
▪️Why: Ugh, this brush. I love using flat definers for my lower lashline – to tightly line the base of my lashes with a colored eyeshadow. The thing is that a flat definer NEEDS to be ‘flat’, or they really don’t do what they’re supposed to do. This one is thick-as-can-be, & creates a huge line when I’m looking for a tight line. It’s just not a good brush.
……
#8 – Môda Pro BMX-498 Line
💲 Price: $5.59 (Môda Brush)
▪️Why: this brush comes in the ‘5-PC Deluxe Eye Kit’, & again I liked most of the brushes in the kit besides this one. I prefer thinner & shorter angled liner brushes, whereas this brush is thick & long – the absolute polar opposite of what I look for & use. I gave it a shot a few times, & it’s just not for me.
……
#9 – Sigma E10 Small Eye Liner
💲 Price: $10.50
▪️Why: perhaps the MOST disappointing out of the entire bunch, this brush is basically unusable. No matter how much I wrap it or use aloe – I can’t get it to stop fraying, meaning NO precision line. Plus, the tip is really thick, so I don’t see how it can create a thin line in the first place. Not a brush for me.
I use the Wet n Wild contour brush for blush, believe it or not. I have a Square chin with round hooded eyes that turn slightly down at the outer corners and I have found that using this angled brush with my blush molds and stacks my cheekbones while giving my face a lot of lift.

Personally Wet n Wild brushes only work well when they’re explicitly NOT used for their intended purpose lmfao

I use that wet n wild brush for blush, but pretty much nothing else.

Any advice on what to look for to get a good brush?
I personally love the boxy charm brushes . I use powder foundation and these work so great . I use the oval shaped one for my contour
Honestly, every Real Techniques brush I’ve ever owned has either fell apart or not worked very well. I’ve never understood the hype.
Elf brushes however are great. Super cheap, and I’ve had mine for years with no shedding. I use them just as often as my Sonia G brushes.
