I have tried applying the foundation and it looks patchy, parted, and mushy on my face. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I try to look like the airbrushed flawless skin YouTubers, but instead I look like a grandma who loves makeup and it’s HORRIBLE because I’m about to date guys that I found out via Hinge 💔💔💔 What moisturizer or oil do you use before applying makeup & how long do you wait before applying your makeup primer? I am currently using CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion and I wait about 15 minutes before applying my primer (smashbox smooth blur, smashbox stay matte, smashbox minimize pores) and my foundation is Laura Mercier lumiere radiance foundation (with a wet beauty blender) that looks horrible on my skin because it looks mushy, comes apart, is patchy, stays in my pores, etc. I have combination-oily skin.

Question are you using all 3 of those primers? If so that’s a lot of layers the more layers the more cakey it will look. Not all primers play well with any old foundation. Some are water based, oil based, or silicone based primers.
Also if you have oily skin I use a toner thats alchohol free from Target its the rose one.
Hey there
The solution here is to get a primer that is specifically moisturizing that is meant to be worn under makeup.
The thing is that CeraVe is not formulated to mix well with makeup. The ingredients of your foundation are not emulsifying with the CeraVe which is why it’s patchy. It doesn’t matter that you wait 15 mins before applying primer cause the CeraVe is still coating your skin & then its mixing with all your primers and foundation.

Moisturizer and then kinship sunscreen!
Make sure you’re not over moisturizing and give it time to soak in – you might be over applying and still need more time. Look at where you’re patchy. You might only need to moisturize where you’re not seeing the cakey separation.
I also use the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion !! my HG. I add a couple drops of rosehip oil to it — has changed my makeup game completely. my skin has improved greatly (hormonal acne, dryness) but when I did struggle with the flakiness/random dry patches, this helped a ton. I still do it now, & my makeup applies beautiful over the combo !! but I also use a primer after it has a bit of time to soak in 😉
OMG this is something I can so relate!!! I don’t get how anyone uses foundation and make it look perfect like the youtubers. As for my two cents, I would say move away from pore blurring/filling primers? This may be a differing opinion, but when I use smoothing or silicone primers, it makes my skin look worst. It’s because when the silicone glides over my skin, it seems to suck out the moisture and make it look patchy.
Lots of people use filters in video to make things like skin look better, so understand that you may be trying to mimic an unrealistic look. That said…. 3 primers at once? That kinda sounds like an awful lot of primer? 🤔
