Are you using a pencil? I personally never mastered the pencil myself! I prefer liquid eyeliner or an angled brush where I apply gel or wet eyeshadow on.
You want to look at you bottom lash line start and extend it from there.
Then keep the brush or applicator as close to your lash line as possible! Keep it thin you can always make it thicker to your preference.
Also try and blend your eyeshadow with a very soft brush! To smooth out the sharp outline, unless that’s what rule going for!
So best tip I ever got for winged liner is from my Grandma. She taught me to start at the outer V your lid makes and from the bottom edge, go up and out toward your brow outter edge. Then from the top of that line ( closest to eyebrow) close your eye and draw a line down and angled toward the lid to end one quarter of the length of the eye. Your sort of making an irregular triangle shape. Then fill in that triangle. Also line as close to the lash line across the eye as possible. I find it gentler on the eye to practice with a wet lipliner brush and any old eyeshadow. It is also easier to buff away mistakes 🙂
Honestly I wouldn’t blame your skills, I’d blame the product! If you’re just starting out doing cat eyeliner I’d suggest the Maybeline Gel Eyeliner pots. They’re super creamy and easy to use. Either that or if you’re more of a fan of a pen applicator I’d start off with a felt tip eyeliner pen. NYX makes a good drugstore one ,they even have a stamp winged eyeliner so you can learn a good style for your eye shape. Hooded eyelids also make doing fun graphic eyeliner harder, I’ve experienced many a mishap myself. You’re doing great!! Just keep practicing
hi! it looks like you have deep set eyes – i do as well and find eyeliner can be kind of tricky. i like to use an eyeshadow with a flat or pencil brush, and a business card to help keep the line sharp! i’ve also done it with eyeliner pencils and blending it a bit with the brush over the business card and it helps a ton.

If you’re using a pencil, just do the lid and don’t do a wing, then with a liner brush, drag the edge of your lid liner out so you’ll get a small wing. The liner should be stacked on your lashes, so you should not have space between your lashes and your liner. Follow your lash line with a kohl pencil, then use a liner brush to taper it into your inner corners and make a small wing to finish it off.
This is by far the easiest way I’ve done my liner and how I do it for work. I just smear colourpop gel liner that’s a twist up pencil in the center of my lashes on the top and my water line on the top (tight lining), then use an angled liner brush to swoop it outwards so it has a tail, and push it into my inner corners near my nose.

I’m 49 years old and have been wearing makeup since I was 12. I still can’t figure eyeliner out.
Not eyeliner related, but you can use a blending brush to blend your eyeshadow, it will appear a lot smoother 😉
