……
Today, I got to thinking.
In my makeup collection, there are some products that you technically only need ONE of, & they are very useful products to always have on hand.
Not ‘colored’ cosmetics per se, but ‘accent’ products that enhance the power of other cosmetic products.
Some of these products can be used on their own, & some of them should be used in conjunction with other products for maximum benefit.
In my personal opinion, you should always keep the following list of products in your stash:
……
PRIMER SPRAY
WHY: Really, you can use ANY hydrating spray as a ‘primer’ spray, but it rehydrates your face between skincare application & makeup application. It preps your skin for a full-face of cosmetics. A spray is convenient, easy-to-use, & fast.
……
UNDER-EYE PRIMER
WHY: I never thought this was necessary, until I started going without it – & noticed what a HUGE difference it makes. You only need a little bit, & if you suffer from crepe-y undereyes (like me), a product like this will act as a filler & give you a desired smoothness in the area. Any products that you apply overtop will go on without hassle, & you will avoid creasing catastrophes.
……
COLOR CORRECTORS
WHY: Depending on your skin’s actual concerns, you can choose the color corrector that you need. I tend to use quite the variety to really hide AND enhance certain features of my face. Color correctors are really smooth & creamy products & after you blend them out – are easily hid beneath a layer of base coverage. Adding a color corrector to your routine only takes a few extra minutes, & it makes a big impact.
……
EYESHADOW PRIMER
WHY: A simple eyeshadow primer can really change the way your eyeshadow performs, or even the way the shadow formula behaves on your eyelid. It’s a very quick step, taking no more than a minute to apply. It helps the shadow adhere to your eye, prevents unwanted creasing, & really emboldens the shadow’s pigments.
……
EYEBROW HIGHLIGHT CRAYON
WHY: This is such a hidden gem. A truly multitasking product, one of these crayons can really brighten up your entire eye area. You can use it for its intended purpose (to highlight the brow arch), but I like to use it in my waterline from time-to-time, as it appears more natural than a stark white, yet still gives the same effect. This crayon can also be used for a very simple inner-corner highlight to emphasize a typically shadowed area of the eye.
……
MIXING MEDIUM
WHY: I don’t use this a ton, but when I need it – it’s great to have. You can use this product for a lot of different things, but what I generally use it for is to mix with powdered pigments to make them into creams. You can really change the range of application with the pigments, & they are a lot easier to work with after you mix a little of this in. I also use it for my cake eyeliners (instead of water) to get a more solid, durable, & longer-lasting wear out of them.
……
GLITTER ADHESIVE
WHY: No matter what format of glitter adhesive you prefer, they all do the same thing. I really like the one with a brush, as you can essentially ‘paint’ the area that you want to cover. Glitter adhesive isn’t ‘just’ for glitter – you can use it to really intensify a dull shimmer shade, or make that topper shade have a never-before-seen radiance.
……
BLACK LIQUID LINER
WHY: This is another multitasking product, one that’s instrumental for everyone; novice to master. The main reason I use a black liquid liner is to hide my faux lash band, as it creates a nice thick line to hide the band. However, in recent years, ‘graphic’ eyeliner has become popularized, & you can achieve that look using this product. You can also use this tool to make any kind of additional drawings – little stars, hearts, moles, etc.
……
LASH GLUE
WHY: Lash glue isn’t ONLY for the sole purpose of lash application. That’s its primary purpose, but many people like to use lash glue to apply gems, rhinestones, & other embellishments to accentuate their makeup look. It has great staying power, & you can choose a ‘clear’ adhesive, so when it dries – you don’t see any residue. Obviously, lash glue is widely used for applying faux lashes, quickly elevating your makeup look.
