Hey beauties! So I have been MUA for almost 4 years now and usually during the off season I sometimes offer free makeup to my Instagram followers as a collaboration opportunity and to build my brand (I also collaborate with other vendors too). It has always been a great opportunity for me to meet new people and expand my list of prospects. Each of my prospects loved their makeup, some were even ecstatic or shed tears of joy because of their beauty. But, what I notice is that while a lot of my prospects have loved the makeup and even told me about how they would like to book me for an upcoming event, I find they end up booking with another MUA which offers cheaper. rate that me (I love this MUA and love to share tips with her). I will list my rates below and keep in mind that I use a combination of products to work with a client’s specific skin type and concerns, so I never invest in anything that might gel, flake or not last long + all customers get mink lashes & touch up kits. Simple Glam: $ 60 Special Events (Grad, Prom): $ 80 Wedding Guest: $ 85 Engagement: $ 120 Wedding Day: $ 150 It gets really frustrating to deal with this because I really love being MUA, but I feel disheartened and not good enough if a prospect brags about how much they liked their * free * makeup and discusses my reservation, but ends up paying for services elsewhere. There are even instances where I’m asked for virtual recommendations on foundation shades or other makeup products that match a prospect via Instagram. What can I do to avoid these instances and do you have any advice on how I can improve for my clients? I already post looks that I create on myself and clients or models on my IG and tiktok to help me grow as an artist, gain perspectives and inspire others. Thank you!!
