I didn’t know where to ask this since my parents don’t know how to help me. I recently tried to get over my depression a bit by taking care of myself and getting into a bit of shape. The problem is, I have no idea what I’m doing. Im trying to do winged eyeliner but i have extreme hooded eyes and it won’t work. Idk if this is a problem with the brand I am using? I am using almay liquid eyeliner and can already tell that I don’t like it so any suggestions for a good eyeliner are appreciated!
If you have hooded eyes try the ābatwingā trick for eyeliner. It really works. A quick google search or on TikTok will get you a tutorial up
I have hooded eyes and shaky hands, so pencils and liquid liner is always really difficult for me. What I found the easiest is gel liner in a pot used with an angled liner brush. Instead of drawing a line all the way across in one movement, I sorta stamp lots of little overlapping lines. The angled brush makes it easy to do a little bit of a wing on the outer corner and I can go over it working from the outer corner inward to smooth out the shape.
Winged liner is pretty difficult with heavily hooded eyes. I havenāt mastered it yet at all
Maybe you should try with different types of eyeliner first! And practice lots!
I have hooded eyes too ā I started with markers/felt tip eyeliners. Once I got the shape down, I shifted to using liquid eyeliner.
I have hooded eyes, although not heavily, but I use the bat wing technique. It’s not drawing on an actual batwing, it’s just called that because it somewhat resembles a bat wing. Just search on youtube “eyeliner bat wing tutorial”. Anna Jeanine has a good one, as well as Jaime French
I have hooded eyes and when I want a straight line I’ve found that starting at the middle of you lashline, keeping your eyes open and looking straight, and taking the liner straight out to as far as you want it and then filling in has help me. Also the kinda c-looking liner trick looks ššÆ

This girl drew it on with her eyes open which is what I do even though I just have deep set eyes! My favorite eyeliner is NYX Epic Ink and it has an actual brush tip so it goes on super smooth.
I have the same problem. You can find these incredible stamps on amazon that give you the perfect winged look every time. Just search for winged eyeliner stamp. Itās very affordable. Good luck!
Does anyone know how to do eyeliner for hooded eyes with wrinkly outer corners? I canāt even do the batwing technique bc the liner gets caught in the wrinkles and it looks horrible no matter what
Start off by just trying to line your top eyelid without the wing. Once you’ve got that part down, you can start drawing a tiny flick, then back filling it to make the kind of triangle.
I thought I would never ever be able to do it. But I just kept practising over and over and it’s getting better.
I found a gel liner and brush was slightly more forgiving at first.
I use the Stila Stay All Day eyeliner pen. I got a sample a couple of years ago, and I loved it so much, I splurged and got the full size, multiple times! It’s really easy to use, and it stays pretty well.
Another thing that helps me with wings is putting some tape below where I want the wing to be as a guide. It just makes it a little easier for me to make a wing without making a giant mess that way. And always remember, when you line your top lashes with liquid, make sure you let it dry thoroughly so you don’t get it above your eyelid!
Check out youtube for tutorials and product suggestions.
while i dont have hooded eyes, i do agree with felt tip liners being much much easier to use.
a VERY CHEAP and absolutely amazing one is the essence waterproof eyeliner pen!
its like 2.75 euros where i live and does what mac, kat von d and all other expensive shit fails to do.
since its literally like a marker, you just draw on the shape you like, and is so good for unexperienced people.
Mamacita, YouTube is your best friend. YouTube all the makeup details you want to learn, and you shall find the help. Thatās how I learned. Constantly watching videos and picking up the skill.
My all time favourite liner for wings is the Kat Von D tattoo liner! Itās a little pricey, ($30 where i live) but itās worth it because it lasts a really long time and is way better than anything Iāve tried from the drugstore imo.

There are so many options for products with which to do liner! Pencils, gel pencils, kohl, liquid liners, gel liners, and even powder. Since I was a teen, Iāve tended to revamp my eyeliner routine every few years due to style preference or different products. So if it takes a bit to find the right match, donāt worry, I think thatās typical.
A staple for me for the past several years has been Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama gel eyeliner. It comes in a pot, and I loooove it because it works on my waterline, too. And I personally like to set my liner with powder so it lasts all night.
The best advice I can give you re: winged eyeliner on hooded eyes is to check out Katie Jane Hughes on Instagram. Sheās a mua (with hooded eyes!) who breaks down how to achieve different makeup looks, especially eyes. Check her out and practice, practice, practice. Good luck!
I have the same problem and itās super frustrating! Iāve been practicing for years with limited success. Going to check out these other recs! I do really like the LāOreal Infallible Flash Cat Eye. It comes with a little stencil thatās helpful, and I like the formula itself and the felt tip. I vastly prefer it to the Stila Stay All Day. I also just discovered the Huda Beauty Life Liner. Itās a liquid but I find it easier to use than most liquids. The brush is rather stiff and itās also tapered in a way that makes it easier for me to get the wing. Bonus: it dries down to a gorgeous sooty matte black that *does not budge*. I have very watery eyes and this does not come off. Itās reasonably easy to remove with double cleansing (oil based remover followed by foaming or gel cleanser). The other end of the liner is an auto pencil thatās also good but I prefer the liquid. Itās expensive but when I purchased, it was on sale at Sephora for about half off. Definitely worth it at that price, and I am very tempted to buy another at full price if it doesnāt go on sale again.
Practice will help! I have hooded eyes too so I know the struggle. I also LOVE bold wings and wear them every chance I get. I prefer to use a pen liner like Stilaās waterproof for my lash line and then I like a felt tip pot, wet n wild is probably my favorite, and I draw a line going out a little wider than you would think youād have to. Then once I reach the tail of the wing, I drag the felt tip back down towards my lash line. I always have a dampened q tip with my to clean it up. The clean up is what really makes it look crisp. I hope that makes sense!
Stila, Kat Von D are all good ones but I am obsessed with NYX eyeliners!! I have the one that looks like a big pen. That thing is my holy grail eyeliner
Saying something similar to a lot of people, try at first drawing your wing with your eye open! Using an eyeshadow could be a good practice if you don’t want to use your liquid liner up, or just a sharp pencil going softly. A lot of tricks for hooded eyes are done the first few times with the eyes open until you get the basic shape for *your specific eye* mastered! It also really helps if your left and right eye don’t have symmetrical hoods (so few of us do!)
You could also look at the puppy liner trend, where you angle down and meet with the bottom lash line. Try lower lash liner (even some fake lashes!) and see what other popular techniques you like on yourself!
For liner, I have zero help on brand. I know that liquid liner has different tips. Brush or felt tip are the classic two, so bristles or a single fabricy point. That tends to just be preference, maybe try a different one than what the Almay is? Also length of the handle
For me I just try it with my eyes open and also prectice!! Doesn’t have to be everyday! But you will get better at it a couple months in!
So I unintentionally do the bat wing if I decide to go liquid eye liner. I got the brand from my Ipsy bag and I forgot to put the cap on and it got ruined so I forgot the brand Iām sorry š but what Iāve been doing recently is taking an angled brush and dipping it into a powder and doing somewhat of a wing and blending it out. Some days I donāt like the way it looks, but I always throw fake lashes on over it as well (those also take practice) and it blends it all out
1. I would try with a stick eyeliner first, like one that is not super smooth. 2. Draw the line out first, then fill in. If you make a mistake it is easy to erase the one thin line and start again. You for this š
I recommend checking out Alissa Ashley’s video on winged eyeliner! She has hooded eyes too, and has a great visual explanation on how to do it.
Also I found that using an angled brush and a gel pot eyeliner is easiest for me. I also started practicing with eyeshadow because it was easier to get a technique down and fix with a finger.
I have hooded eyes so I usually do upward liner. Winged liner looks really funny on me.If you watch Korean dramas, you will see this type of liners.
Winged eyeliner is hard for me, and my eyes arenāt even hooded. Just keep practicing! I hope you master it some day
Iāve used this tutorial, and a bunch of practice. https://youtu.be/_UeDxkWFe3E
I have hooded eyes and canāt do a wing to save my life! Liquid liners can be very difficult to get perfect. I use a liner brush and use a dark eyeshadow. Itās more diffused and doesnāt have to be precise. I also put my concealer on after I do my eyes, and sweep a concealer brush up under the wing to clean it up and make it more defined.
Just keep practicing. There’s unlimited tutorials just keep watching. I would suggest starting with a pencil, or even a gel liner and angle brush is more forgiving imo.
Iāve had luck using eyeliner stamps to create the winged look. Just found some on Amazon that I love. Then I use a eyeliner gel or liquid pen to color it in more and bring it back to my eye. Iām not a pro in any regards to makeup but this has really helped! Good luck
Cheers to you for doing something to make yourself feel good! Iāve struggled off and on with depression and make up always makes me feel good! The more you practice it the better youāll get at finding what makes you look and feel good about you. Not all ālooksā look great on everyone. (And thatās ok) Sending you happy, positive thoughts! š·
Use Maybelline Tattoo Studio Liquid Eyeliner! It lasts me for so long and I have hooded eyes as well, so I’d say just watch a couple of YouTube tutorials and you should be good. You got this, I believe in you!
What about for hooded eyes that are also super round?? All the tutorials Iāve seen are done by people with more almond shaped eyes. Any tips??
Its good to use gel eyeliner with setting spray, OR eyeshadow.
I second the posts suggesting YouTube! Lisa Eldridge is super gentle and laid back – she always makes me feel better about knowing nothing. [Here](https://youtu.be/TqR01QFlLEc) is her BOLD winged liner video for hooded eyes. She has another video specifically for hooded eyes, but she gives tips for different shapes in most of her other videos too. You’ve got this!
Search for tutorial on YouTube , change liquid eyeliner for gel eyeliner and practice practice practice š
If youāre just starting out using eyeliner liquid can be a bit of a pain depending on the product. I would recommend pen like applicators or fine tip liners āŗļø
I would also recommend starting off with your eyes open and using your lower lash line as a guide on where to start and bring the wing out as much as you want (the bat eye technique is also best for hooded eyes)
When bring the liner back in towards the eye go to your natural crease line and create a triangle kinda shape. āŗļø
I use the nyx matte black liquid liner
