In this picture you do not have hooded eyes. Hoods rest atop all or most of the eyelid in hooded eyes, whereas at least in this photo, you have clear eyelid space. You may have more deepset eyes.
I wouldn’t say you have downturned eyes, if you made a line from the inner corner to the outer corner of your eye it doesn’t appear to be slanted downward. Or maybe a tiny bit? (One picture is hard to judge) However, with hoods/folds and deeper set eyes the appearance of heaviness at the outer corner can give the illusion of downturned at times.
One of the tricks I use when combat this with my folds/hoods is to focus on keeping my “outer v” almost vertical. Instead of winging it out, I bring it pretty straight up from the lower lash line up toward the brow, with just a little angle that I have found works for my eyes. It lifts and doesn’t fight with hoodedness well for me.
I am thankful for the trick from an old Samantha Ravndahl video. Combining different tips for different eye shapes to find a combo that you like is key I have found, especially if you don’t have a shape that works with the typical tutorials.
I have a long, narrow face and a high forehead. I want to learn to do a basic smokey eye and also winged liner but when I try to carry a line past the corner of my eye it just makes my eyes look smaller and close together. I would like to make them look more upturned and open. I am totally clueless about makeup but want to learn some basic skills. Thanks!
I have similar eyes also. Looks like you have Downturned and hooded/deepset eyes. I always curl my eyelashes to make my eyes appear more open even when not wearing makeup. For winged liner, you could research the ‘bat wing’ technique. Annettes makeup corner on YouTube also has a cool way of doing winged liner but it’s quite dramatic. I think it’s Wayne goss who has a good tutorial for hooded eyes and shadow placement.

I have similar eyes. Mine are considered round, deep set, and prominent.

You have eyes that look very much like the English actress Vicky McClure’s. Maybe look up her eye makeup looks and see what appeals to you?

Hooded. Not downturned.
