I bought the NYX Ultimate Brights palette but this is my first time trying color and I just can’t seem to bring out the colors like on the yt videos for this palette. Am I doing something wrong? (view comments)

I have a darker complexion that you do but I like to use a white primer when I use bright colors to really make them pop. I use the ELF Putty eye primer in White.
A good eyeshadow primer, instead of brushing it on dab it on w your finger or a brush good for packing on color
Okay so basically I have very hooded eyes and generally stayed away from eyeshadow altogether, but I recently discovered yt videos for hooded eyes makeup and so decided to come back in. I bought this palette bc I already had their Smokey & Highlight palette and liked it and I wanted to try more colourful looks, so I looked up some videos on yt with this palette and it looked very pigmentated.
Then I tried a light mauve-pink-dark mauve look thinking it would look bright and nice, but I have a lot of trouble to get the colour on my eyes. It looked so easy and simple on yt and when I do the same there’s almost no colour on my eyes and they just do not look as bright? Instead it somewhat looks like i’ve been beaten up haha
Please ignore the bad application and colour mixing (unless u got tips for that too?), i’m still new to that lmao
Honestly you don’t need an eyeshadow primer, just use whatever concealer or foundation you have on hand and don’t set it with powder. Pack the shadows on with any brush (you can use a packing brush but I just use a dense blending brush) or your finger (my preferred method) and blend out the edges. Since the concealer/foundation is wet, the eyeshadow will cling to it and make it more vibrant. HOWEVER let the concealer/foundation dry down a bit before applying (say a minute or 2).

I’ve purchased a large crayon like eyeshadow stick in white from NYX and lay that down on top of the Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow primer as a “base” and it makes colors pop a little more.
