Recently set up a makeup station vanity trick for my girlfriend, and I want to give her some brushes. I did a little preliminary research and it looks like Japanese handmade brushes are the best? But it was like $ 400 for a set and it’s a bit out of my price range. Then my research brought me to Sigma, and they had a set for around $ 150. Is this a good mid-range price? I don’t want the best things, but I don’t want department store trash either. Just solid, mid-level stuff. Plus, are kits the way to go? Or should I buy brushes individually? Thank you!
I can vouch for Sigma. All my brushes are from the brand and I’ve had them for 5+ years and counting. If your girlfriend already own some makeup brushes I think it’s better to buy individual brushes to fill the gaps in her collection, maybe you can take a picture of her collection and post it here so you don’t buy “dupes” of her currently owned brushes? But if she doesn’t own that many brushes (or is new to makeup) a kit would be perfect 🙂 Good luck!
I know natural brushes are controversial (as in not cruelty-free), but Japanese handmade brushes are the shit! I don’t think you need to buy a whole set to spoil your so. Maybe something like a blush/bronzer brush and some eye stuff and you’re set. When it comes to natural hair, I personally have only gotten brushes that don’t need to be washed all the time, so really only brushes that I use with powders. Mine are white goat hair, which is not the softest you can get, but even with my sensitive eyes I don’t find them scratchy at all! Some are Hakuhodo and private labeled Hakuhodo and then there’s a few I got straight from Japan but it’s pretty much the same quality/price than Hakuhodo.
Sigma brushes are really good. Some affordable ones also come from Morphe!
