This fall I am going to my first music festival. (Fully vaxed and all). Super excited and started all the planning. Recommendations for products that are suitable for camping? Looking for makeup inspiration that isn’t just glittery cultural appropriation. Many of the pinterest / Instagram results are of white girls with jewelry on their foreheads or leaning Native American face paint. Realistically, it’s only going to go full blast on maybe day 2 (before grunge camping sets in). I still want to make them count!
I’d suggest only bringing the makeup you plan on using and nothing you can’t replace if lost.
I know someone who brought most of her makeup collection to a festival with her and someone stole everything. She was devastated.
I love festival makeup! Two big things:
1. Make sure any glitter you use on your face is eye safe! Even if it’s on your forehead, double check.
2. Invest in a cooling setting spray if it’s going to be warm at the festival.
As far as looks go, you can get great inspiration from musical icons – David Bowie, Boy George, Prince, Steve Strange, Siouxsie Sioux, etc.
I am also going to my first festival this year! Here is the advice I was given:
1. Test your routine in advance (aka sweat in it + wear it all day)
2. Primer is your friend, but be strategic (address YOUR skin type, don’t just pick up any random primer. I have dry skin so I just moisturize)
3. Setting spray is your friend
4. For daytime, don’t forget to incorporate SPF (I just use a tinted moisturizer with an SPF because that works well with my dry skin)
5. Avoid looks that require a lot of tools/very specific tools (tho this is more bc I’ll not have a great bathroom set-up)
6. Wash your face at the end of EVERY day
For inspiration, I just plan on doing the makeup I’m drawn to regardless of “festival” aesthetic. I, too, am grossed out by some of the trends, but I love colorful eyeshadow. Even the cheapest stuff seems to last all day if I use primer, so I’m just going to bring a rainbow palette and have fun.

Instagram is a great place to find trendy festival makeup, and it’s much less dated than Pinterest results. Pearls & graphic liner are super in right now!
