I would love to know because I am a beginner and if there is one tip I don’t want to miss then I would love to know it! You are all here like professionals to me (I’m sure some of you really are!) And I really appreciate the advice you give.

From Lisa Eldridge, it’s better to use a thin layer of foundation (or tinted moisturizer) and then follow up with pinpoint concealing for trouble spots of pigmentation or blemishes. It looks more skinlike, if that’s what you want for your look.
From Katie Jane Hughes, doing batwing liner for hooded eyes. The shape will be different depending on how hooded the eye is (mine are more hooded than Katie’s), but looking forward into a mirror with your eyes in their natural position, and applying the general shape, then stretching the skin a little bit and filling in areas of disconnection, but *keeping the batwing shape* has made winged liner possible for me. Follow up with a detail brush dipped in micellar water or moisturizer bro clean up the edges. She also recommended using a setting spray mixed with eyeshadow and a thin brush, and I found that more forgiving than an eyeliner pen or gel pot when I was starting to learn this.
Step 6ft back from the mirror. I guarantee whatever tiny flaw in your makeup you were obsessed with is not even remotely visible at that distance. Nobody looks flawless at point-blank viewing distance, so don’t judge yourself at that distance.
Itâs an oldie but goodie: your brows should look like sisters, not twins. I agonized over getting them perfectly symmetrical! Now I accept them for their slight differences. It gives my face dimension and my brows look less âdrawn on.â
Setting spray after powder. Particularly the catrice hd dewy setting mist. I learned that from Taylor wynn, and the days of crepe, cake looking powder are now behind me. I look back on pictures and wished I had learned that trick sooner. Setting spray melts all of your powder products together and makes for a much more healthy, skin like finish.
Taylor Wynn is my fav youtuber. Check her out, she’s informative, mellow, super talented and doesn’t have the annoying demeanor that I dislike about other youtubers.
I donât remember who told me this, but using whatever blush is leftover on the brush to tap onto my eyelids (before any other eye makeup, of course). That little bit of extra, subtle color really makes me look more healthy and alive, either on its own with a little mascara or as a backdrop for shadow and liner.
Look straight ahead and keep your eyes open while you apply eye makeup. The idea is that you want to apply it this way so you see how it looks when your eyes are open, which is how most of the world will see it too.
The Robert Welsh undereye concealer method.
Two dots on the inner corner, one on the outer corner and blend with a finger. Stunning results and no excess product to slip into fine lines – so you don’t need to powder!
Pressing eyeshadow on, rather than swiping back and forth allows different colors to show without muddiness.
After youâre done your make-up and everything is blended, spray your setting spray, wait a few seconds, AND THEN lightly tap with a damp beauty blender all over. Go over everything except your eye look. Tap over your blush, bronzer, highlight etc.
Throwing in that last tap-over is KEY! This fixes that problem where your makeup looks good in the bathroom mirror, but looks crazy in daylight lol. Itâs softens all the edges while leaving the placement in tact.
From Jaime French: “It’s just makeup. It washes off.”
So play with it. Put a bunch of stuff on your face to see what you like and refine your technique. If something doesn’t work out, just wash it off. There’s no penalty for getting it wrong.
I would recommend trying to find out be of the old Kevyn Aucoin books (Face Forward and I canât remember the other name) because itâs full of solid tips that I learned from in the 90s and still use.
Color correctors to correct my foundation and then using primer to thin out a super thick foundation. It’s helping me pan my foundations that were too dark, orange, yellow, or pink on me. Gotta love having olive undertones.
i think i saw this on tiktok, line your UPPER waterline with a black liner to make your eyelashes/mascara look seamless with your upper lid
I guess itâs more skin care, but I was having a rough time finding foundation. It ALL sat weird on my skin and looked cakey and seemed to emphasize my blemishes. Turns out, drinking a lot of water helps make up do its job and lay flat.
Color corrector is meant to correct, not conceal. When you want to correct hyperpigmentation (like acne or under eye circles), use the opposite color and you should only use enough to turn that spot gray/brown. It will make your makeup less cakey in the end and make it easier for your foundation/concealer to cover up the color.
Use an under eye concealer 2 shades lighter than your skin. I honestly never knew this until I was 29… and my eyes have never looked so awake and bright! I always matched my skin and wondered why I look tired even with concealer on!
Saw Kevin Aucoin on Oprah when I was 11 or 12. He showed her the finger trick (after applying lipstick, stick your finger in your mouth, twist and pull it out. This VERY EFFECTIVELY gets rid of extra lipstick that would otherwise end up on your teeth).
I’ve been using it ever since, and it continues to blow people’s minds (I’m 35).
Microfinishing powder (the loose kind) or a skin colored finishing powder before foundation but after primer helps lock in foundation for longer wear
Less is more sometimes
Less is definitely more, MOISTURIZEEE, itâs best to do your makeup in either natural or white light (NOT yellow etc lol), and donât take it too seriouslyâ itâs just makeup đ (thatâs from the legendary Wayne Goss haha)
Mascara after all powders. Gets any powder off your lashes!
If you get mascara smudged anywhere else while applying it donât rush to wipe it off! Instead just wait for it to dry and finish your makeup. Once itâs dry go back in with a spoolie or qtip and it should flake right off
Also a general rule of thumb when youâre applying anything with a brush, lightly holding the brush farther out to the end prevents going in with too heavy of a hand and makes blending a whole lot easier. Itâs also good to get in the habit of tapping off your brush (on the side of your palette or whatever) to tap off any excess pigment before going onto your face! For creams I tend to swirl/work the product into the bristles of the brush on the back of my hand before going onto my face to get a more even application.
From Wayne Goss, if you have round eyes put your crease color on the outer third of your eye instead. As someone with round eyes who’s eyebrows sit low and would always look crazy with my crease color going all the way into my eyebrows, this was such a game changer.
I have no tips but this is a brilliant thread, thank you!
Sunblock and moisturizer. Apply a light layer of foundation , (light amount or as needed) concealer under the eyes,
And to conceal Blemishes. Powder face with a light layer using a fluffy brush in a dabbing motion. Finally blush. Youâd have a fresh looking face every single time.
I drink cherry juice mixed with water and it helps clear my skin. I don’t wear a lot of makeup but it still helps. I just drink a bottle everyday, every morning. đ (It also helps with dark spots. The advice is from my mom, we both use it.)
