i think an easy way to incorporate color is to create a mostly neutral look and just add a pop of color in one place. like just along the lower lash line, or just in the outer crease area, or a colorful shimmer in the inner corner or even in the inner brow area for a more avant garde/editorial sort of feeling. as you get more comfortable with that you can start expanding to using color all over the eye.
note that with red id made sure to use a black eyeliner and mascara to provide more visual definition between the shadow and your eye so it looks intentional and not like your eyelids are irritated. you can also add a cream colored eyeliner to your lower waterline for the same purpose.
Or during makeup playtime at home, go bananas and wear a bold look. You don’t have to let anyone else see it, but it helps to get you used to seeing yourself wearing color.
I’d pack a deep shade in your crease and then slowly blend out with a lighter but bold shade to get a pretty ombré look. Then use a shimmer on the lid and you can choose a separate bold color for the lower lash line. Just have fun with it there’s not right way 😘
