Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I found some old beauty tips from two annuals Jackie’s 1978 and ’79 and thought you might want to see them all! (Feel free to leave any opinions on the comments. I’m not a beauty guru or MUA, but I like to browse this sub every now and then)
Context: the annuals used to belong to my mum, who was a 60s girl. I don’t know if she owns other annuals. I only have these because they ended up on my bookshelf somehow when we moved, haha. I looked at them quite a lot. They have some other stuff. General shit aimed at teenagers, mentions and interviews with bands at the time. Some fashion tips (some of which I may try since ngl they sound kinda funky), a lot of Christmas themed shit (I’m assuming one was published every December) and cliche romance comics and stories. It’s a pretty interesting find and I plan on keeping them. They’re an interesting piece of what shit was like in the late 70s.
If anyone wants me to publish any more pages, I’m happy to add some more information!
Edit: also feel free to try some of the looks! I’m not doing too hot with money so can’t really afford much in terms of make up. Also am not amazing with said make up anyway lmao. But I’m happy to see anyone attempt any of it! The products are listed but I think they’ll likely be discontinued. I mean, considering this book is over 40 years old lol
god that blush placement! so low!
It’s so interesting to compare and contrast what’s changed and what hasn’t. For example, gold eyeshadow on the browbone and inner corner?? That’s different. But the base makeup application is very similar to what’s in style now, right down to the use of two different shades to contour the nose and highlight under the eyes.
Absolutely fascinating! Thanks for posting.
I love this!! I have a whole book that gives tips on makeup, hygiene, how to dress fashionably, how to style your hair, how to exercise, etc. for young women. It was published in 1972, the year I was born.
This is amazing! I absolutely loved Jackie in the 80’s, it was written/published in my hometown, Dundee, it was always fun spotting local cool kids who featured in the photo strip love stories hahaha.
I used to love my Mum’s annuals too! She had a few Jinty’s, Bunty’s and I think another Jackie that had tips on “How to know if you’re dating a grot” that I always remember 😂
Her blending sponge looks like a potato chip in the second slide!
The grease helps with blending!?
I love stuff like this so much! Great post op!
