I wanted to discuss having a mid-range – bigger collection. I find myself ashamed of it. I am on trial for paying my money earned on makeup. I see so many people here who have smaller collections but never anyone who has many. I have been adapting my collection for a few years and I can’t forgive having such a collection if it causes toxicity in your life. I just want people with larger collections to have a selling point to share if they want to. I have eye shadow: 30 palettes Eyeshadow base: 5 eyebrow products: 1 Eyeliner: 17 Mascara: 5 (4 unopened) Face base: 5 Foundation: 11 Concealer: 5 Face palettes: 1 Blush: 9 Bronzer: 6 Highlighter: 14 Face powder: Spray 3 fixatives: 5 Lip product: 58 Lip pencil: 7
I love all collections. Large collections, moderate collections and minimalist collections. I love idealism. My favorite hobby is watching declutters and collections on youtube, organizing my makeup and swatch parties.
It sucks that people have to shame each other for makeup collections. It brings me a lot of joy and while there can be an unhealthy, addictive aspect to it, it’s something that remains consistent to me. Makeup is my fantasy world I escape to. It’s better than worrying and complaining and trying to control things you can’t. Everybody should have somewhere or something where they can escape their troubles.
I currently have a large collection. I’ve decluttered a lot in the last decade and regret some of it. While there is value in letting some things go, I’ve been nostalgic for old things and have found value in holding on. I have zero intention of decluttering again unless I really dislike something. I’ve been shamed by people many times for my makeup. They tell me I’m wasting my money. I do understand their viewpoint, but I wish they knew how much joy makeup brings me.
I’d say my collection is around the same size as yours! All my friends think it’s crazy to have more than a couple of each product. For me (and I’m sure many others on this sub) makeup is a hobby and a passion. I love everything about it. Before covid, I was getting decent use out of everything I owned so it never felt like it had a negative impact or was wasteful.
To control my collection, I try not to buy similar formulas. Like concealers, for example. I have a full coverage one with a dewy finish so I won’t buy another with the same formula.
I love having a collection of products I love. It brings me joy despite others saying it’s frivilous or unnecessary 🙂
🤔I guess I have a large collection too.. if this considered large…
