Hey! So I haven’t worn makeup for a while. I’m butch, and feminine outfits usually look a bit like costumes. With the pandemic, I didn’t have much reason to dress. Recently, however, I entered Cottagecore, and had a lot of fun creating vintage-inspired looks for special outings. I want to try on makeup! Anyone have any tips for subtle yet romantic makeup that looks like … the 19th century? Or beauty vloggers / influencers who do things like that? I’m not very keen on the accuracy of the rules or anything, but it would be fun to learn the history of makeup if there is someone doing things about it.

I’m sorry to dissapoint but the 19th century was probably the least makeup friendly of all centuries. Blush at the most and that’s it. End of 19th century, you see rice powder appearing but makeup only kicks in around 1905-1910 and even then it was still frowned upon. Once WW1 was over and the roaring 20’s start did makeup become much more acceptable.
Edit: I am talking about Europe and North America, I don’t have any knowledge of makeup trends in Asia, Africa, Russia,…
If you have an Instagram you should follow Rachel Maksy and Samantha Vanwie. They do a lot of vintage and cottagecore stuff combined.
