Did you know that eons before Kylie Jenner was born, Neanderthals smeared their faces with foundation and highlighter? That before Harry Styles there was King Louis XIV who dazzled all of Europe? And centuries before BTS, there were the hwarang, the warriors of Silla Korea who made all of East Asia talk for their beauty and makeup. A little about me … I was born as one of the only Korean Americans in my entire life, so I always felt … thirsty. I was never the beauty “standard” anywhere and being Asian American also meant I was hyper-invisible. But that all changed when in high school I became an activist / advocate and started our school’s very first diversity club. This is where I was also part of the school newspaper, writing only about various stories and voices. It was not popular! It was in the 2000s and people still hadn’t woken up to DE＆I, a conversation people still need help with. Anyway, I became a journalist in New York and started [VERY GOOD LIGHT](https://verygoodlight.com/), a Gen Z beauty post dedicated to redefining masculinity. A few years later, we launched good light, a gender-neutral beauty brand. Hope everyone feels included, beautiful and POWERFUL, that’s what PRETTY BOYS is. We prove that the gender binary and its roles were created for the sole purpose of dividing and that the pretty is democratizing, a practice that everyone has used everywhere.
