So I’m a trans woman who is still a teenager, so not only do I not know the cause of gender roles makeup, but I don’t know them too well even though I was AFAB. Anyway, I wanted to know as I have target, CVS and Walgreens within walking distance so it would be easier and cheaper than ordering online / going to a brand name store. But I would always buy the more expensive type if the CVS material has no quality then I’m just curious
Honestly some brands are just expensive and glamorous for no reason. I love drug store make-up because you can actually find good quality for way less. My go-to eyeshadow is the brand profusion. They have lots of fun palettes that cater to a wide variety of skin tones and u can buy them for like 10 bucks at Walmart. Maybelline makes some pretty good matte foundation and mascara too! All the best love.
I used to be obsessed with purchasing branded makeup during my teen years, but as I eventually grew older I realized that branded makeup personally wasn’t worth it to me. I find that if you do your research and try out which products work for you, there are certainly drugstore products that are high quality and much cheaper in price. Not only that, but it also comes down to technique and how you use a product. A person can buy the most expensive product but it may not look as great as it should be if proper technique isn’t used.
When I first started wearing makeup (about 6-7 years ago) I had the idea that only high end branded makeup was acceptable. This is totally not true!!! Though I’ve noticed personally drug store brand products are getting pricier, there are some amazing brands/products to be found at Walgreens, Target, and CVS (I shop at all 3 myself). If you have the disposable funds, they’re great to practice with and get comfortable with before graduating to spending $50-60+ on a single product at high end stores.
Here are some of my personal favorites:
Milani skin products: Conceal + Perfect Concealer & Conceal + Perfect Foundation. THESE. ARE. AMAZING. Creamy, easy to blend, slow to dry, excellent coverage. My HG foundation/concealer.
L’Oréal Telescopic Mascara: Simply amazing. Non clumping, elongates lashes, easy to let dry and wipe off if you get some on your skin. Great mascara (not very voluminous or thick, better for toned-down looks IMO)
NYX powder products: Highlight & Contour Pro Palette, powder blush. NYX is such a great all encompassing brand, you can easily get a full face of quality makeup from their brand alone. They have my favorite drugstore contour palette and the blushes are super pigmented but very very easy to blend out.
Hope this helps a bit! Good luck on your makeup journey! 🙂
