Hello! I found this subreddit and wanted to ask you what your best advice is for someone starting out. I really only know eyeliner and I don’t have any close friends to turn to for advice. I’m 21 and want to try experimenting :).

I learned by finding some makeup gurus on YouTube and subscribing and watching a lot of their videos. You end up sort of soaking up a lot of the knowledge naturally because you see them do the same things over and over. If you watch a few, good products/brands will be mentioned over and over as well. Then you can sort of start trying to incorporate something new into your own routine, one thing at a time. I started with mascara, then added concealer, then eyeliner, lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, etc. I never got to the point of contouring but after a few years, I can now manage a daily minimal makeup routine, something a little more professional for work, and something much more glam for big events and nights out.

What I did was pin lots of looks I liked on Pinterest, then looked up similar styles on YouTube. also, if you can go into a makeup store and have your foundation color matched lol then you can order online easier 😁
I would say, start natural? That might be a duh thing to say, but when I started, I kept thinking I had to do a full face. I think cutting down the amount of steps you need to the basics would really help as a beginner. I have a couple of face products (foundation and concealer) that I bought extra that I can send you if you want! Just DM me 🙂
YouTube is definitely a great resource! When i started using makeup regularly i used a tinted moisturizer and mascara. Blush and bronzer are also great if you are looking for more to experiment with and can make a great impact.
